　　改錯題型的應試解題技巧：結合上下文判斷動詞的時態是否有誤

　　改錯短文中，上下文往往會有信息詞提示動詞的時態是否有誤。另外，注意以下句型跟某種時態有特定的對應關系：

　　1.在賓語從句中，若主句為現在時、將來時、現在完成時，賓語從句的謂語動詞時態視情況而定;主句為過去時態，賓語從句一般用過去時態。如果賓語從句說明的是客觀真理，用一般現在時。

　　2.在時間和條件狀語從句中，常用現在時表示將來。

　　3.在if引導的非真實條件句中，或在由otherwise，without，or，but for，but that，given，provided，were it not for等引導的含蓄條件句中，主句謂語動詞需使用虛擬語氣，即表過去時用would/should/could/might+have done，表現在和將來時用would/should/could/might+do。

　　4.表示建議、命令、要求、主張、愿望等主觀傾向性概念的動詞、名詞(如advise，suggest, suggestion, order, recommend, propose, proposal, ask, command, insist,

　　demand, desire, beg, require, propose, urge, decide，determine，urge等)，其后的名詞性從句需用虛擬語氣，形式是“should+動詞原形”，should可以省略。

　　5.在“It is (about/high) time that...”句型中，that從句中的謂語動詞帶用一般過去時，that可以省略。

　　6.在This/That/It is the second time that..句型中that從句用現在完成時，若is改為was，則用過去完成時。

　　7.在no sooner...than.和hardly...when...句型中，前面常用過去完成時，than/when后的句子用一般過去時。

　　8.在 was/were about to do...when...或was/were doing...when...或was/were on the point of doing...when...句型中，when分句的謂語動詞用一般過去時。

　　分析：考點所在句子中的定語從句用的是一般過去時，而主句謂語動詞用的是一般現在時，不符合一個句子中時態應保持一致的語法規則。再者，從上下文來看，這個句子講述的是19世紀之前作家們的情況，上下句中使用的都是過去時，所以此處應把謂語動詞is改為它的過去式was。
